Afyaplus conducted Afyaplus 3rd WASH Gala

The Afyaplus 3rd WASH Gala was a huge success, with stakeholders from different sectors coming together to collaborate and find sustainable solutions to improve WASH services in Iringa. The event was held on March 24th, 2023, at the Masiti Grand Hall of Gangilonga in the Iringa region, was graced by the Guest of Honor, the Deputy Minister for Water, Eng. Maryprisca Mahundi, who was accompanied by other officials from the Ministry of Water.

The theme for the WASH Gala this year was “It’s Either Water or Water“. This theme highlights the importance of water and the need to preserve this precious resource. The event aimed to raise funds to construct hand washing stands/stations in 30 schools within the five councils of the Iringa region. These hand washing stands/stations will benefit school children, including those with disabilities, by providing them with access to clean water and proper hand washing facilities. This initiative is crucial in reducing the time spent fetching water, which will ultimately lead to improved health standards, increased school attendance, and better academic performance.

The event featured speeches from different stakeholders, performances, and a fundraising drive to support the initiative. The speakers included the Zonal Manager of World Vision Vincent Kasuga, TAWASANET Chairperson Eng Herbert Kashililah, RUWASA Manager Iringa region Eng Fredius Magige, and an Afyaplus team member and Environmental Health Officer from Muhimbili National Hospital. They all emphasized the importance of improving WASH services and the need for collaboration between stakeholders to achieve sustainable solutions.

The event was a success, special thanks to the supporters of Afyaplus 3rd WASH Gala from various organizations, companies including world vision, Lyra in Africa, Agronommos sin frontiers, Grow initiatives, Coca-Cola, crave,  Makutano tv, Juju flower park, Iringa sunset hotel, Mount royal villa, and skyline graphics and Water authorities institutions in Iringa, including RUWASA and IRUWASA, also played a significant role in the success of the event.

In conclusion, the Afyaplus 3rd WASH Gala was a successful event that brought together stakeholders from different sectors to collaborate and come up with sustainable solutions to improve WASH services in Iringa. The initiative to construct hand washing stands/stations in schools is a crucial step towards improving hygiene and keeping children healthy. Afyaplus expresses its gratitude to all its partners, stakeholders, and individuals who supported the initiative.
