IMPROVE 100 PROJECT

Improve 100 is a project aimed at empowering adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 with necessary skills which will allow them to explore their potentials and improve their economic status. The project will create an environment where they can have a voice in economic, political and cultural by providing education and skills, give them mentors to guide them, building their communication skills, giving them decision making roles and providing leadership space in Iringa region Tanzania. Programs which will be conducted are trainings related to mindset growth, sexual reproductive health, nutrition, entrepreneurship and personal financial management through Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA).

The main objective of this project

This project aims at empowering adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 with the necessary skills which will allow them to explore their potential and improve their economic status.

Implementation

This  project is implemented in phases /cohorts whereby Cohort1 and 2 the project was implemented in Iringa Municipal and Iringa District Council to 500 adolescent girls and women from  five wards namely Gangilonga, Mkwawa, Kihesa, Kwakilosa and Mwangata.

Currently in Cohort3 the project is implemented  to 200 adolescent girls and young women at Mseke Ward in Iringa DC.

In the implementation of Improve100 project Cohort1&2  in 2020 to 2021 Afyaplus in collaboration with local government authorities, local organization and other stakeholders has managed to empower 500 adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 years with necessary skills related to leadership, Horticulture and entrepreneurship. As success of the project done, out of 500 women trained, 123 women managed to establish their own business, 6 women managed to establish an income generating group (IGA) for making peanuts and others are employed.

Currently, Afyaplus in collaboration with local government authorities, local organizations, and other stakeholders has managed to empower 200 adolescent girls and young women aged 16-30 years with necessary skills related to mindset growth,  Adolescent Sexual  Reproductive Health and Rights, Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, and Personal Finance Management through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and How to operate and manage VSLAs groups through M-KOBA digital platform. Through these sessions three groups namely Upendo, Hekima and Furaha were formulated.
