Earlier this month, we embarked on a mission to empower parents and caregivers through a community awareness session. Held on the 12th in Ismani ward, our focus was on two crucial aspects: Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR).
Our goal was to provide valuable insights, arming parents and caregivers with the knowledge to play a pivotal role in creating a safe and healthy environment during menstruation. The session went beyond just discussions; it became a forum for engaging conversations and contributions on the agenda at hand.
The support we received from parents and caregivers in Ismani Ward was nothing short of incredible. Their positive response reinforced our belief that the shared knowledge could be a catalyst in our collective fight against period poverty, menstrual stigma, and the shame faced by girls during their periods.
The atmosphere during the session was charged with enthusiasm as we tackled misconceptions surrounding menstruation. We took the opportunity to dismantle myths, fostering a more informed and supportive community.
But that’s not all we shared. We also provided an update on the progress of the Safe Pad Lab project, currently underway at Ismani Secondary School. As we presented our sustainability plans, the community embraced our vision for a future where period poverty and stigma are but distant memories.
As we continue our journey, we are fueled by the belief that education, dialogue, and community engagement. can pave the way for a future where no girl faces the challenges of period poverty, shame, and stigma.
