We are excited to announce that Afyaplus organization has officially handed over a new handwashing station to Saba Saba Primary School in Iringa Municipal. This station will benefit 407 students (199 boys, 208 girls), 18 teachers, and staff members, allowing eight students to wash their hands simultaneously. With this addition, our Water in School project has now reached a total of 36 schools.
In addition to the handover, we conducted an awareness session on handwashing hygiene, emphasizing proper handwashing procedures, environmental cleanliness, and the consequences of not using clean water and practicing good hand hygiene. The event was attended by Mr. Hamis Omary, the Iringa Municipal Health Officer, who stressed the importance of utilizing this facility to improve well-being and mitigate the risks of waterborne diseases. Mr. Samwel Mtovagake, the Iringa Municipal Primary Education Officer, expressed gratitude for our organization’s efforts in implementing this project at Saba Saba Primary School and urged the school management to ensure the station’s continuous operation.
Furthermore, the Education Officer of Gangilonga Ward attended the handover event and congratulated the school management and Afyaplus Organization for the successful establishment of the handwashing station. He pledged to visit the school regularly to ensure the station’s proper operation and maintenance. Finally, the Headteacher expressed heartfelt thanks to Afyaplus Organization for making this project a reality in their school.
Saba Saba Primary School caters to special needs students, serving a total of 366 students. We are grateful for the support provided by the Segal Family Foundation, which has been instrumental in realizing this project.
Our primary goal with this initiative is to instill a culture of regular handwashing within the school community, thereby creating a safer and more hygienic environment. By promoting frequent handwashing, we aim to reduce the risk of illnesses and promote the overall health of everyone involved.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all stakeholders and our donor, the Segal Family Foundation, for their generous support of this project.
