Why WASH matters
Clean water and adequate sanitation are basic human rights. They shape children’s health, attendance and dignity at school.
For three years Afyaplus has hosted the WASH Gala, a flagship annual event that raises awareness and funds for water and sanitation projects in Iringa Region. It is held in line with World Water Week.
The Gala builds community-based fundraising: local people help solve their own sanitation challenges, change habits, and share responsibility for healthier environments.
Three galas, one growing movement
Each edition has turned an evening of giving into water and handwashing facilities for schools.
Water storage for 25 schools
The first Gala raised funds to improve water storage facilities in 25 government schools in Iringa region.
2021Five handwashing stations
The second Gala funded five handwashing stations in schools.
2022Inclusive handwashing stations
New partners joined the third Gala, which raised funds for handwashing stations in five more schools, designed for students with disabilities.

The theme of the 3rd Gala says water is not a luxury, it is life itself. The evening raised funds for handwashing stations in five schools, with inclusive designs for students with disabilities.
